Which Skillsets of Tomorrow Are Worth Learning?
Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about what it means to keep up as a creative right now. There are new tools, new titles, and new expectations showing up every week. The bar to create good work fast is rising. And it’s not just about AI. Look at motion design, once a specialist skill, now expected for brands and websites.
I don’t know about you, but I often feel the pressure to learn everything from motion design, image and video generation, vibe coding, agent automations, the list goes on and on! I’ve been carrying this anxiety about falling behind, constantly thinking about building future-proof skills.
The other day I took the time to think about a question I think we’d all benefit from asking right now:
Which skillsets of tomorrow are worth learning, and how deep do we go?
To find this clarity, I used GPT to list out all the emerging skillsets and then I categorize them. I noticed three themes in this list: creative, technical, and strategic. How does my current skillsets fit, and where can my interest or areas I’m lacking lead me?
I’m a creative who uses strategy to drive my designs, but I’ve always felt a gap in the technical side. For example, I’d rather collaborate on website development than build them myself, yet that lack of knowledge often means constraints I’m unaware of, especially for advanced interactive design. But does that mean I would need to learn how to code to improve the design to development collaboration?
The more I thought about this, I realized I didn’t need to dive into the deep end of the technical side. I just needed to understand their constraints well enough to direct the outcome. The goal isn’t fluency in code, it’s literacy.
That realization helped me see where to focus deeply, and where to stay light. It also made me realize that identifying your path in this chaos is what brings clarity when the future feels overwhelming.
So we built a quiz to help you find yours!
